Dr. Hu has extensive start-up and Executive experiences from both profits and non-profits. He co-founded a FinTech company Ellie Mae, Inc. in 1998, focusing on a SaaS and cloud solution to automate the US mortgage industry. Ellie Mae went public in 2011, and it had acquired 9 tech companies to fuel its growth. Dr. Hu has stayed as an executive until it was acquired by a PE firm for $3.8B in 2019. Subsequently the firm successfully sold Ellie Mae to ICE, the NYSE’s parent company, for $11B in 2020.
In 2002, Dr. Hu led a fundraising effort to raise $3M to build the first Center in the Bay Area for FCSN (Friends of Children with Special Needs), a nonprofit organization dedicated to serve special need children and adults. He then served 6 terms as its chairman when it started operation in 2006, and now serves as a board member. FCSN operates in 3 centers, with 150+ employees, and serves hundreds of children and adults with Autism, Down syndrome, etc.

Dr. Hu is actively involved in helping nonprofit organizations (FCSN, Global Monte Jade, Silicon Valley Chinese American Computer and Commerce Association, San Francisco Taipei Sister City Committee, etc), contributing to the Chinese community, and providing mentorship to many startup companies and young entrepreneurs.
